Q. What is the best format for supplying my artwork?
File Format - Single page PDF
Colourspace - CMYK
Bleed - 3mm
Resolution - 300dpi
Fonts - Fully embedded or converted to outlines. Fonts that are embedded subsets or converted to outlines are not editable. Please consider this if you think you may want us to amend it down the line.
Crop marks - Always, yes please.
Note - Unless you tell us otherwise, all colourspaces will be automatically converted to CMYK using the latest available tables. This may cause a shift in colour and an undesirable result from what you intended. Please be sure, especially with corporate colours, that the file is set up for quality CMYK printing.

Q. Any other tips for preparing my artwork?
Well prepared artwork will process error free and produce exactly what is intended. Although it’s possible for us to print from a wide range of formats, we get the least issues when your artwork is prepared using the specifications listed above. Q. How should I set up my job for PUR binding?

  1. For deeper detail please click HERE to download our PUR binding guide for Designers and HERE for our Artwork adjustments for Perfect bound jobs in pdf format.
  2. We need two files: a spread for the inside and outside cover plus a second file for the text pages.
  3. The Text file should be single pages NOT spreads. Page 1 of this file is the 1st right hand inside page when you open the book’s cover. The rest follow in reading order.
  4. Cover artwork needs the correct size spine through the centre. Please call us if you need help to calculate this
  5. Artwork should be supplied at the same size your book will be printed
  6. You lose 3-4mm in the spine gutter on every page so keep your content clear of this area.
  7. There is a hinge on the 1st & last text pages where the cover is glued. This can hide content so keep anything important at least 10mm away from the spine edge.
  8. Finally, export artwork as Hi Res PDF with crop marks and 3mm bleed on each edge. Choose ‘PDF x/1a 2001’ from the top drop down menu when you export to pdf.
